Festival Highlights
- World Heritage background
- High-quality cultural and artistic content

The Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival is a festival that tells the story of King Jeongjo's 4-day visit to Suwon Hwaseong during his 8-day royal procession (Haenghaeng) in 1795. Visitors can enjoy high-quality cultural and artistic content against the backdrop of Suwon Hwaseong, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Furthermore, the Grand Royal Parade of King Jeongjo, the nation's largest royal parade and a citizen-participatory parade based on the "Wonhaeng Eulmyo Jeongni Uigwe" (Royal Procession of 1795), allows participants to enjoy the event not merely as spectators but as active participants. Selected as a global festival, the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival also provides content for foreigners, such as a Global Village.
Suwon Hwaseong Fortress area (363-31 Haenggung Square, Sinpung-dong, Paldal-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do)
The main program is 'Suwon Fantasy - Yajo,' a themed performance uniquely directed with themes related to Suwon Hwaseong, a World Heritage site. Performance programs include 'Immersive Art Performance Jinchan' and 'Water Performance Seonyumong,' which are contemporary reinterpretations of real-view performances set against Suwon Hwaseong and Hwaseong Haenggung Palace. Experience/participation programs offer a variety of activities such as tours, exhibitions, and hands-on experiences at Suwon Hwaseong and Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, including 'Citizen Dohwaseo' where citizens directly participate in completing paintings, and 'Chukseong Noriteo' where visitors can experience the fortress construction process.
The Grand Royal Parade of King Jeongjo will take place on Sunday, September 28, 2025. Also known as 'Eulmyonyeon Hwaseong Wonhaeng,' this parade recreates the large-scale royal procession that King Jeongjo undertook for 8 days from the 9th to the 16th of the intercalary second month in the Eulmyo year (1795) to commemorate his mother Lady Hyegyeong Hong's 60th birthday, based on the historical record "Wonhaeng Eulmyo Jeongni Uigwe." It is the nation's largest royal parade recreated in a modern context.
The Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival can be enjoyed for free. However, some pre-booked programs are subject to charge.
There are no food stalls within the festival grounds, so please use nearby local restaurants.
