Mokpo, opened as a port in 1897, was once a center for trade, logistics, and transportation, enjoying the glory of being one of the top 3 ports and 6 major cities in the nation, leading the revival of the local economy. Currently, it is a central city serving the southwestern coast. The Mokpo Port Festival uniquely recreates the traditional 'Pasi' (wave market) of Mokpo Port, full of the scent of the harbor, on Samhakdo Island, where legends coexist. It is the only festival nationwide to do so, widely promoting its historical value. This autumn festival also features various events embodying the romance of Mokpo Port, such as 'Pasi' auctions using seasonal seafood, and opportunities to grill and cook the auctioned seafood on the spot.
