Chunhyang Festival

Festival Highlights
- Deep history and tradition
- Traditional cultural festival

The 96th Chunhyang Festival, boasting Korea's deepest history and tradition, will adorn Namwon's spring magnificently this April. The Chunhyang Festival is a traditional cultural festival that Namwon citizens voluntarily initiated in 1931, during the Japanese colonial period, to foster national pride and honor the noble spirit of Seong Chunhyang. It is the genesis of performance art festivals in Korea and the nation's oldest historical asset, having coexisted with its citizens for 96 long years. Starting from a memorial rite celebrating Dano, the day Chunhyang and Lee Mong-ryong first met, the festival is now leaping forward as a global cultural platform where people from all over the world can enjoy and communicate together, beyond Korea. This year's festival is particularly characterized by the harmony of Gwanghalluwon Garden's tranquil scenery and modern light displays. During the day, it offers the dynamic exhilaration of traditional performances, and at night, it provides a lyrical ambiance under romantic starlight, delivering unforgettable emotions to visitors. The 96th Chunhyang Festival, unfolding in a space where the most Korean sentiments come alive, is a venue for harmony connecting tradition, modernity, and the world.
Main programs include the Chunhyang Selection Contest, Opening Ceremony, Hanbok Roadshow, Daedong-gilnori Gukak Daejeon (Traditional Korean Music Battle), Rap Pansori Battle, Band Competition, and Beauty Show. Ancillary programs feature Chunhyang Jihyang (Chunhyang Memorial Rite), traditional Gukak (Korean Classical Music) performances, international performances, and a band competition. Consumer participation programs include co-prosperity collaboration enterprise booths and handicraft exhibition booths, and a professional food zone will also be available.
