Jung-gu, Seoul, will host the 2026 Yi Sun-sin Festival, a special event commemorating the birth of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, reaffirming the historical identity of the district where he was born. In Jung-gu, where Yi Sun-sin's wisdom and courage began, a brilliant birthday celebration unfolds, with everyone becoming the main character, enjoying a giant birthday cake adorned with 481 congratulatory messages. Through diverse and sensory-satisfying programs, Jung-gu invites all citizens to a harmonious celebration commemorating the birth of Admiral Yi Sun-sin.
The festival will take place around Yi Sun-sin's birthplace (Myungbo Art Hall intersection area), and the address is 47 Mareunnae-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul (Chodong), in the vicinity of Myungbo Theater.
This festival goes beyond mere viewing, consisting of four zones where visitors can actively participate and become the protagonists. Main programs include performances, Ironman Yi Sun-sin, a food zone, a flea market, and experiential programs. Subsidiary programs such as a stamp tour, face painting, and cooking talk shows are also prepared.
The festival consists of four special zones. - Sunsin ROCK: A magnificent parade by the Navy Honor Guard and exciting performances by the Navy PR team, the "Ironman Yi Sun-sin Selection Contest" primarily involving local residents, and various stage performances will take place. - Sunsin FIELD: A food zone where 20 representative restaurants from Jung-gu, Seoul, gather to offer abundant delights. - Sunsin MARKET: A flea market where local merchants and artists participate, a space to discover various merchandise related to Admiral Yi Sun-sin. - Sunsin PLAY: An experiential playground composed of three themes: past, present, and future. It is full of programs that people of all ages can enjoy with their families, including making Sunsin Boys paper hats, making "Nanjung Ilgi" pop-up books, traditional calligraphy experience, 7 types of traditional games, making Turtle Ship puzzles & keycap keyrings, making silk screen handkerchiefs, making Shrinkles Yi Sun-sin doorbells, a Roblox Yi Sun-sin birthday party, the Alley Leader Boy Yi Sun-sin Playground, VR horseback riding experience traversing the battlefield, and the Boy Yi Sun-sin Exploration Playground.
