Event Introduction
The "Seoul Royal Guard Changing Ceremony" is a representative traditional cultural reenactment event hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, a program that vividly revives the scene of the royal guards changing shifts who protected the palace gates during the Joseon Dynasty. The Sumunjang (royal guard commander) was an official of Jong 6-pum rank, who, along with subordinates and royal guards belonging to the Sumunjangcheong, guarded the palace gates, regulated entry and exit, and conducted patrols. The changing ceremony is structured based on actual historical data and unfolds around Deoksugung Palace in the late Joseon Dynasty. The event is held six days a week, excluding Mondays, at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM in front of Daehanmun Gate at Deoksugung Palace.
