The 132nd Anniversary Commemoration of the Donghak Peasant Revolution




The '132nd Anniversary Commemoration of the Donghak Peasant Revolution,' hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Donghak Peasant Revolution Commemorative Foundation, will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Grand Auditorium of the National Museum of Korea, under the slogan 'Donghak Peasant Revolution, a Light for Today.' The Donghak Peasant Revolution was an autonomous resistance movement by the people who rose up in 1894 against a corrupt feudal society and to prevent foreign invasion. May 11, designated as a national commemorative day in 2019, marks the day of the first victory of the Donghak Peasant Revolution at Hwangtohyeon.
This commemoration aims to honor the participants of the Donghak Peasant Revolution, inherit and develop the spirit of patriotism, contribute to restoring the honor of participants and their bereaved families, and disseminate its meaning to the entire nation.
The main programs include a pre-ceremony video, VIP entry, national anthem ceremony, commemorative address, delivery of bereaved family registration notices, and a themed performance.
The commemoration will be held on May 11, 2026, at the Grand Auditorium of the National Museum of Korea (137 Seobinggo-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul (Yongsandong 6-ga)). Admission is free.
