The Busan Lotus Lantern Festival is a traditional cultural festival that inherits and develops the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Lotus Lantern Festival in the Busan region. It is our unique culture with a history of approximately 1,200 years, promoting mutual happiness, peace, and community harmony and prosperity by lighting lotus lanterns on Buddha's Birthday. In particular, it is a global cultural heritage registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The Busan Lotus Lantern Festival aims to enjoy, inherit, and develop traditional culture with citizens through various programs such as the Celebration United Assembly, Lantern Parade, and Traditional Lantern Exhibition.
The main programs are as follows: 1) Busan Lotus Lantern Festival: On May 16 (Sat) at 4:00 PM at Dasom Square in Busan Citizens Park, Eoullim Hanmadang (Harmony Festival), Celebration United Assembly, and Lantern Parade will take place. 2) Busan Lotus Lantern Culture Festival: Held from May 1 (Fri) to May 17 (Sun) at Song Sang-hyeon Square. The contents include the Opening Lighting Ceremony (May 1, 7:00 PM), Traditional Lantern Exhibition (May 1 ~ May 17), Wish Lantern Hanging Experience (May 1 ~ May 17), Traditional Culture Experience Hanmadang (May 9 ~ 10), and Mucha Manbal Gongyang (May 10).
Side events include the following programs: 1) Special Exhibition of Traditional Lanterns: Held from May 13 (Wed) ~ May 21 (Thu) at Dasom Gallery in Citizens Park. 2) Visitor SNS Contest: Held from April 20 (Mon) ~ May 22 (Fri).
It will be held at Song Sang-hyeon Square and areas around Busan Citizens Park. The address is 121-1 Dongseong-ro 112beon-gil, Busanjin-gu, Busan.
