Jongmyo Daeje, a solemn ancestral rite accompanied by majestic ritual music and dance, is held at Jongmyo Shrine's Main Hall, imbued with five hundred years of history, resonating with the sacred grandeur of a UNESCO-recognized World Heritage site. Jongmyo Daeje is an ancestral ritual ceremony performed to enshrine the spirit tablets of the successive kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty. It was restored in 1969 and has continued to this day, recognized for its cultural value as a comprehensive rite that harmonizes the dignity of royal ceremonies with dance and music. In 2001, it was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Since 2006, it has been conducted as an international event, inviting domestic and foreign guests, drawing global attention. Every first Sunday of May offers a special opportunity to witness Jongmyo Daeje, where the dignified rituals, music, and dance of the Joseon royal court come together.
