The Geijisi Juldarigi, uniting the global village with a rope, is a globally recognized cultural heritage, inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2015 along with Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines. The highlight of the Geijisi Juldarigi Festival is a grand performance of unity, where an enormous rope weighing 40 tons, 200 meters long, and 1 meter in diameter is pulled over 1 km to stage a tug-of-war. Strangers join forces to move the rope, quickly becoming friends and cheering together. Every year, countless domestic and international tourists visit Geijisi in Dangjin to participate in the Geijisi Juldarigi Festival and enjoy the spectacular event.
The Geijisi Juldarigi Festival consists of various programs. Main programs include Geijisi Juldarigi (rope ritual - rope procession - tug-of-war), World Tug-of-War Festival, and the theme performance 'Dangjin Fantasy' Haewon's Rope. Subsidiary programs include the night media exhibition 'Garden of Light', celebration performance 'Pungryu Madang', celebration performances (Kim Da-hyun, Kim Hee-jae, Kang Min, Yu Nan-yi), international academic events, Dangje (Village Ritual), Yongwangje (Dragon King Ritual), market prayer rituals, and K-pop festivals. Consumer participation programs include the 'Jjul'garaetteok (long rice cake) experience, Citizen Stage, Dangjin Citizen Tug-of-War Competition and National Top 3 Yut Nori Competition, various experience booths, and Children's Tug-of-War Competition. The global event, World Tug-of-War Festival (Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines), will also take place.
